Fall Porch Refresh

I Am an Autumn

Fall is my favorite season, hands down.

Between the cooler weather, cozy outfits, seasonal décor, and local festivals, I love it all.

I keep seeing Gilmore Girls references all over social media, and I’m fully jumping on the train: “I am an Autumn” and proud of it.

As soon as September 1st hits each year, I’m energized to pack away the summer décor and pull out the pumpkins.

Now you may be asking, what kind of pumpkins?

And yes, there are definitely themes.

I joke that there’s generic fall, Halloween/spooky season, and then, of course, the “thankful, grateful, blessed” pumpkin season. Each one has its moment, but September is for easing into the classic fall aesthetic.

Think cozy and warm vibes.

My Favorite Spot at Home

One of my favorite things about our house in North Carolina is the front porch.

When we bought this home, I was so excited that our model included one of the larger porches in the neighborhood. Earlier this year for Mother’s Day, Zach worked with a carpenter to build a custom porch swing that perfectly matched the house.

Sitting on that swing, whether it’s a hot summer afternoon or a chilly fall evening, brings me so much joy. I love curling up with a book or spending time with our daughter while we wait for Dada to come home from work.

Giving Old Furniture New Life

Anyway, the rest of our porch furniture consisted of hand-me-down wooden Adirondack chairs and a wooden shelf that I’ve had for nearly eight years. Time and weather had definitely taken their toll.

This year, I decided it was time to give them new life.

Six cans of matte black spray paint and one very sore hand later, I feel like I have brand-new furniture!

Decorating for Fall

Next came the fun part: decorating.

I scoured Amazon looking for the perfect fall pieces and eventually settled on a larger outdoor rug to layer under my welcome mat, two faux plants for seasonal color, and a few outdoor throw pillows.

For the porch swing, I purchased pillow inserts and interchangeable fall pillow covers. I love this approach because moving forward I can simply swap out the covers with each season, making it both easier and more budget-friendly.

I loved the covers so much that I ended up ordering two more for the Adirondack chairs.

The Final Result

All in all, I’m thrilled with how everything turned out.

Now I’m just waiting for the leaves to start changing and the 60-degree weather to arrive and really bring the whole space together. There’s something about a cozy front porch in the fall that just feels like home.
